Hailing from London, Blockade are a new band on the up with great potential. The band - comprised of Olly Davies (vocals), Jack Messer (guitar), Luke McCormick (bass) and Jack Reynolds (drums) are an alt-rock band with an awesome vibe.
Listing their influences as a mix of Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco, Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes, Silverstein, Royal Blood and more, you’re in for a damn good listen.
Blockade released their newest single ‘Better Off Without’ March 1st and it’s bound to be an absolute crowd pleaser. I live for a catchy chorus and this song 100% caters to that element. The mix between clean and crunchy guitar, solid rhythmic drum beats, it’s heavy enough for your rock playlists but tame enough to just chill and sing along with.
The lyrics describe what sounds like an unhealthy relationship where you know you shouldn’t but you’ve a tendency to keep going back. “Better, better off without you. Somehow, a drug that I must quit, oh” portrays it well like an addiction. “Tie me down doctor, give me that dose. Bitter pills to swallow often help the most” adds on perfectly to show how even though the solution may be unpleasant, it’s the better decision knowing you’re “better off without”.
So if you like what you’ve been hearing, Blockade are playing the O2 Academy Islington, London Saturday 13th April 2024 alongside a cracking line-up consisting of The Racketeers, Pilots, High Windows & Sam J Martin. Get tickets whilst they’re still available HERE.
