‘Chayla Hope with ‘All Over Now’
by Nicola O’Connell
About a month or so ago we featured Chayla Hope on crookedjukebox. after we had come across a post on Instagram plugging her music. Probably my favourite artist I’ve newly discovered this year so far. In our previous post we briefly spoke about music from her 2022 release ‘Damn, Feelings’ and I was thrilled to find out there was new music coming our way.
Chayla’s new single titled ‘All Over Now’ was released 20th March and she’s proving she’s still got it with her catchy, fun lyrics and pop vibes readying me for Summer asap (despite being in England with Spring barely sprung - but shhh..).
Calling her new song a love letter to herself, Chayla perfectly puts into words the feeling of being used and looked over rather than appreciated for what they’re truly worth. She reminds herself that no matter what, she’ll be there pushing herself to go on.
“I know you felt like a car getting traded for parts,
But now you’ve got me baby.
Not just some work of art, auctioned of and forgot.
They’re out to get you lately.”
Throughout the song she offers herself constant validations such as “But now you’ve got me baby” and“I’ll never leave you down and out, no that’s all over now”. In her own words, “I’m around whenever you need me”. It’s one of those songs that aurally sounds up-beat and fun though there’s still that element of sadness in the lyrics. But in a good way! Because it’s looking back and telling your past self that you’ve been there, you’ve got this and you made it through.
My favourite part of the song HAS to be with the lyrics:
“I melt down like an ice cream cone,
Scooped up right off the street.
I freeze when we’re all alone,
Play it cold like it’s routine.”
I love the fun little change up in the music alongside the lyrics. Every time I heard that specific snippet when the song was teased I’d have it stuck in my head for days on end. It’s just fantastic?
I’m truly dying waiting for this gem to come to the UK. I feel we’re missing out over here and Chayla Hope’s music wouldn’t go to waste on us.
Also if you’re liking what you’re hearing from Chayla already, then I highly recommend following her TikTok because the cheeky snippets on there of songs to come sound amazing and I cannot wait for the whole lot to be given to us.
She truly isn’t an artist to be slept on, she deserves so much more recognition. I can’t wait to see where this year takes her.
