Halos on Hooligans
by Nicola O’Connell
Halos on Hooligans are a NuMetal, rock-rap duo hailing from the South East of England. When listening to their music and taking in all elements & layers of it, you’d imagine a full band but in fact it’s just the two of them. To me that highlights the level of talent these guys have because combined they make some fantastic art.
The duo, composed of Ben James and Pinkyman, list acts such as Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and Korn as a few of their influences. As an avid fan of such bands and being a kid who grew up listening to Kerrang! and Scuzz, Halos and Hooligans are truly tipping their hat to an iconic era whilst keeping it modern and fresh.
Releasing their debut single ‘SCREAM & SHOUT’ in July of last year, the duo were quick to be featured on BBC radio’s ‘BBC Music Introducing’. It’s a great song and when I first heard it I could totally see where those aforementioned influences come into play.
Following up with their singles ‘SAY SOMETHING’ and ‘DOORS’ these guys are proving consistent in their quality of music with solid lyricism, catchy beats and a satisfying level of dynamics between the rap and sung vocal parts.
Another thing I love is that HoH’s released a song in October called ‘HALOS ON HALLOWEEN’. And hey, maybe I’m biased because I love Halloween, but it’s an incredible song. It deserves a shoutout because I believe it’s a great example of their music with the atmospheric elements, the different styles of vocals, the switch from the piano & rap to the heavier guitar and drums. It’s brilliant.
