Slam Dunk 2024 is here. Who will you be seeing?

by Nicola O’Connell

Slam Dunk is finally here! We’re mega excited for this weekend as we will be attending the South at Hatfield Park on Saturday. Following our previous ‘Ladies on the Line-Up’ post we’re going to share the rest of the line-up we cannot wait to catch this weekend. If you’re going to Slam Dunk this weekend, follow us on Instagram or X and let us know who you’re most looking forward to seeing.

With it being You Me At Six’s final UK festival we’re thrilled to have the opportunity to see them for potentially our last time before their split. I first discovered YMAS when they supported Paramore back in 2007 at the Colchester Arts Centre. ‘Save It For The Bedroom’ was one of those songs I had on repeat on my MP3 player, to this day it’s still a bop. It’s wild that it’s been 20 years since they formed but with 8 albums under their belt they’ve truly had a great run.

A couple more throwbacks to my teen years are The All-American Rejects and Boys Like Girls. It’s been a hot minute since The All-American Rejects released a new album but in 2022 frontman Tyson Ritter went on to form band Now More Than Ever with Scott Chesak (AAR touring keyboardist) and Izzy Fontaine on guitar.
After 11 years on what the band describes as an ‘unannounced hiatus’, Boys Like Girls have returned last October with the album ‘Sunday At Foxwoods’. The album is oddly comforting after all these years with ‘Hourglass’ and ‘Language’ being a couple of my favourites from it. It wasn’t until seeing the Slam Dunk Festival line-up that I even realised Boys Like Girls had released new music but I’m excited to catch up and revisit their old catalogue. If I made a soundtrack for my teenage years, ‘The Great Escape’ would definitely make the cut.

I Prevail are a band I admittedly only just discovered how good their music is. I don’t know why but they’re simply a band that I never gravitated toward, despite being told by several people the music is good. So I’m holding my hands up and saying I’m an idiot and I promise to dive further into them. I now have a case of FOMO.

Some other fantastic names hitting the bill this weekend that aren’t to be missed are Funeral For A Friend, We The Kings, Asking Alexandria, The Blackout and The Wonder Years. It’s safe to say the festival has quite the line-up this year and there’s plenty there for everyone to enjoy. We’ve barely scratched the surface with who’s on but be sure to check out the rest of the bands.

We look forward to covering the South date and getting some great content for you guys to check out after the festival is over. If you’re heading to one of the dates be sure to keep safe, stay hydrated and keep your phones tucked safely away from any theft.
